Fetal Doppler Rental - How do I get one?
Technology today makes so many life experiences more exciting, and pregnancy is no exception. Did you know that you can rent, or purchase, a fetal Doppler? This apparatus allows you to hear, at any time, the heartbeat of your unborn child, sometimes as early as 8 weeks into your pregnancy.
Some models even let you record the heartbeat. Whether it is for the simple joy of hearing your child’s heartbeat, or for peace of mind, setting up a fetal Doppler rental might be an option for you.
First, be aware that you must have a signed prescription from your doctor to rent a Doppler. As the FDA classifies the apparatus as a Class II Medical Device, you and the rental company can be levied a heavy fine if you rent one without doctor’s approval.
Once you have your doctor’s prescription, choose your online rental company.
Alternatively, some rental companies will actually contact your doctor for you to request the prescription. Confirm that the company does in fact require a prescription before renting to you, as you do not want to fall on the wrong side of FDA regulations.
The next step is to choose the model of Doppler you wish to rent. Prices can range from $25 to $50 per month, with more sensitive models being more costly.
These machines, though, will detect your child’s heartbeat at an earlier stage of the pregnancy, and can usually record the heartbeat. Keep in mind as well that many companies will offer a discount if you want to rent the machine for longer than three months.
You must also decide if you want to purchase rental insurance. This is offered by the rental companies themselves in case of damage (though not in case of loss). The fee is usually around $30. If you miss any monthly payments, though, the insurance often becomes invalid.
Shipping for your rental Doppler can be free if you choose the standard option. However, if you are anxious or just too excited to wait, you may find it worthwhile to pay the extra $25 to have it shipped overnight. Once it arrives, you may want to take it with you to your next doctor’s appointment, so your doctor or nurse can show you how to best use it.
Finally, be sure to return the Doppler AFTER the birth! In all the excitement, you may forget about this and pay more rental fees than necessary. Some companies make it easy for you by providing both a pre-printed return label and free return shipping.
You’ll want to keep the original packaging that the Doppler was mailed to you in, to make the return easier. However, if you plan on having another baby, you may want to choose a rent-to-own plan from the start, and just store it for your next little one.
Setting up a fetal Doppler rental may add hours of pleasure to your pregnancy, as you listen to your child’s heartbeat and prepare for your new life.
But, again, do not rent your Doppler from a company that does not require a doctor’s prescription. You’ll have enough expenses with your newborn without adding FDA fines to the list.
